Discover the best Aloe Vera remedies for beautiful, healthy skin and soft, shiny hair. We have collected some gorgeous recipes that you will love using.
The first record of Aloe Vera being used as a medicinal plant was written over 4000 years ago in Babylonian times! It has been used ever since all over the globe and has lived up to its name as the "Plant of Immortality" - a name it was given by the Ancient Egyptians.
In these days of harsh chemicals, which are bad for us and the environment, and drugs with side effects, we are all looking for natural products which are safe and effective. Aloe Vera is almost a complete pharmacy in itself, and a really useful addition to your first aid kit and beauty regime.
It soothes, cools, moisturises and softens skin, and on top of that also has antiseptic and anti-fungal properties. It leaves your hair silky and shiny and doesn't dry it out.
We'll share a few of the simplest and most effective treatments here, and we will be adding lots more recipes over the coming weeks, so do keep checking back for more.
Aloe Vera Remedies for the Skin
Mask for Dry Skin and Wrinkles
Ingredients: 1 egg yolk 1 teaspoon of Aloe juice 1 teaspoon of Olive Oil
Method: Mix all three ingredients together to form a thick cream. Smooth onto your face and leave for 20 minutes. Wash off with warm water and apply your favourite Aloe Vera moisturiser.
Aloe Vera and Coconut Oil Moisturiser
Ingredients: Gel from one leaf 1/2 cup organic coconut oil
Method: Blend the Aloe Vera Gel until smooth Add to the coconut oil in a bowl Whisk together until you get a smooth consistency like cake icing
You can add a couple of drops of your favourite essential oil if you like. Lavender is lovely and calming, or you could use Rosemary if you want to feel more lively and awake!
Transfer to a sterile jar and store in the fridge.
To Use: You can use this all over your body, and also as a make-up remover if you like. Great after a bath or a shower with an exfoliating mitten. You will be so soft and smooth you'll be addicted to this stuff!
Aloe Vera Remedies for the Hair
Coconut Milk Shampoo
This shampoo won't foam up like regular shampoos, but it will clean your hair! It is similar in pH to your scalp, so won't damage your skin or your hair. It might take a few washes for your hair to adjust, so give it a chance.
Ingredients: 1 cup organic coconut milk 1 cup of fresh Aloe Vera gel - or buy one like this if you haven't got a plant Couple drops of your favourite essential oil (optional)
Method: Whisk together in a bowl, and store in a clean jar in the fridge. This will keep about a week in the fridge. I have heard some people make it last longer by freezing it in ice cube containers. Great idea!
To Use: Work well into your hair and leave for up to a minute. Rinse well. If you are experiencing a waxy or greasy build up on your hair, finish with an Apple Cider Vinegar and AV Juice rinse. See how to make it below.
Apple Cider Vinegar and Aloe Vera Juice Hair Rinse
Ingredients: 1 cup ACV 1 cup AVJ 1 cup water
Put them all together in a jar or a spray bottle. Mix well.
To Use: Take about a capful of the rinse, add some water from the shower into a plastic cup or container and pour over your hair.
Work through. You can rinse off or leave in - up to you. I'd be excited to hear which works best for you.
Deep Treatment Conditioner
Ingredients: Olive Oil Fresh Aloe Gel - scoop out from the leaf with a spoon
Method: Mix together in equal parts.
To Use: Apply to dry hair, combing it through thoroughly. Leave for 30 minutes. Wash out with a mild Aloe Vera Shampoo
